Microsoft Vista is up and running. I’m using Ultimate version for all the extra benefits that have been blogged many times and many places. I’ve started off by turning on voice recognition. So far I love it. Its really easy to load and easy to use. The recognition is amazingly good. This just wants me to have Vista on a Tablet. Why, you ask, have it on a tablet, when your talking to it? Well its because in January I plan on buying a Fujitsu P1610. Its designed to be held and I can just see me holding the tablet in slate mode and speaking to it controlling it or dictating a email or document. I can’t wait to blog by voice as JK has done.
Currently Fujitsu doesn’t have all the drivers or apps working with Vista. Maybe Fujitsu will have all the drivers and apps ready by January. Until then people like Jimmy Leung will struggle with it and I deeply appreciate them leading the way and getting all the errors and crashes for those of us to follow. Tis the way of early adapters.
Back to my installation. When it first started it was a bit on the slow side. I attributed this to the system running indexer, System Restore, and Microsoft Updates all at the same time. As I worked on it more, the system speed up. I find the explorer change a bit of a chore to get used to and figure out how it works now.
I just attached the computer to my company’s Domain. It took a little while to find the system icon to change from a workgroup to a domain but its done. Instead of the nice icons on login, there is the familiar CTRL + ALT + DEL prompt. From there you have a icon with the username that I entered to the domain when logging in earlier. Before that it was a icon of my local account then a blank icon to log in to the domain. After clicking on the blank icon your prompted for username and password for the *BLANK* domain.
I just found out though that the install didn’t format the hard drive and all the old files are still on there. Crap! I got to start all over again.
OK back to the DVD. I have a feeling, I’m going to be installing a lot. As all good tech’s should do.
